Tim Rumsey
Tim Rumsey is a charismatic, young British pianist and composer based in the UK, having delighted audiences at venues including the Wigmore Hall, V&A Museum, Chichester Cathedral and Cheltenham’s Pitville Pump Room. Having recently launched his debut solo album Transcriptions’, Tim’s versatility as a transcriber is showcased through his own arrangements of everything from Purcell to Gershwin.
Festival collaborations have included the Pordenone Silent Film Festival in Italy, the International Summer School in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, and the Cheltenham Music Festival. Concerto appearances have also included Beethoven’s 4th Piano Concerto with the Chichester Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to a busy solo schedule, Tim is a devoted collaborative pianist, composer and improviser. He regularly joins forces as a duo partner, and has a clarinet, violin and piano trio named the Pearl Trio, which he has composed multiple works for. His enthusiasm as a jazz pianist feeds into in his solo recitals and recordings, as well as taking him to weddings and venues around the UK for solo sets.
Alongside performing, Tim juggles a busy schedule of teaching and accompanying, with his work at the Junior Department of the Royal Academy of Music and St. Catherine’s School in Bramley, Surrey. His day-to-day work also includes playing for the Chichester Festival Theatre, choirs, ballet piano, and a private teacher of piano, jazz and theory.
